Opportunity- PhD Program MCGT – UM6P : Game Theory in Mathematics, Economics, and Computation
Dear all,
We are excited to announce the opening of applications for the second cohort of our PhD Program: Game Theory in Mathematics, Economics, and Computation at the Moroccan Center for Game Theory (MCGT), beginning in October 2025!
The MCGT, housed at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) – Rabat, invites applications from highly motivated students with a very strong mathematical background and passionate about interdisciplinary research in game theory, at the intersection of mathematics, economics, and computation. This program aims to develop the next generation of researchers who will drive innovations at the intersection of these fields.
Program Highlights:
- Multi-disciplinary focus: The PhD program emphasizes research in mathematical economics, algorithmic game theory, and computational social choice, preparing students for academic and industry careers.
- Collaborative environment: Work alongside leading international professors and fellow researchers in a dynamic and innovative research center.
- Rigorous curriculum: The first year includes pre-doctoral training (prédoc), where students will have the opportunity to earn a Master 2 in Applied Mathematics from University Paris Dauphine-PSL. If you are studying in a Master 1 program at Dauphine-PSL or a similar institution in France or the EU, you may be eligible to join a Master 2 program at Dauphine-PSL. A few places are available. Find out more and apply here .
- Financial support: The program offers a monthly scholarship to support PhD candidates during their studies.
Program Structure:
First Year (Prédoc):
Two trimesters of courses covering mathematical, algorithmic, and economic foundations necessary for a thesis in game theory featuring international professors teaching courses on current research topics in game theory.
Assessment: Each course ends with an evaluation (exams or assignments).
Last trimester : Dedicated to thesis topic development and writing.
Research Memo:
In April 2025, students will be assigned a research memo topic, which will evolve into their thesis topic. This research will be supervised by a UM6P permanent professor in collaboration with an international researcher.
Thesis Supervision:
Research topics will be aligned with ongoing research in the center, and supervision will be carried out by UM6P professors, co-supervised by other international researchers affiliated with the center.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must hold a Master 2 degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (mathematics, theoretical computer science, and quantitative economics), with a very strong background in mathematics.
Application Process:
Interested candidates should submit the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) highlighting academic and professional achievements.
- Statement of Purpose outlining research interests, career goals, and motivation for applying.
- Transcripts from all prior institutions.
- Two academic references.
- Additional supporting documents or publications (if any).
Application deadline:
The deadline for submitting your application is May 31, 2025.
